Why Bridgnorth

A town that gives you a route without needing an itinerary

Bridgnorth's geography does most of the planning for you. High Town sits on the sandstone ridge above the Severn, while Low Town occupies the riverside below.

Castle Walk and the castle ruins provide the classic elevated views before the Bridgnorth Cliff Railway gives you the memorable connection between the two halves of town.

Down beside the river, the atmosphere changes again. Low Town, the Severn and the northern terminus of the Severn Valley Railway make this one of Shropshire's most characterful day-trip combinations.

You do not need to rush it. Bridgnorth works particularly well when the aim is simply to wander, ride the cliff railway, stop beside the river and let the town unfold.
