Leave the city behind A landscape day between the West Midlands and Staffordshire Walk it, ride it or use the Chase as the open-air counterpoint to Birmingham, Wolverhampton and the Black Country.
Why Cannock Chase

The point is not another attraction — it is space

Cannock Chase gives a West Midlands road trip something completely different: heathland, woodland, long trails and places where the built-up landscape quickly disappears.

Walking is one of the simplest ways to experience it, with routes ranging from short accessible trails to longer circular walks across the Chase.

Cycling is equally important. Cannock Chase Forest has dedicated family routes and purpose-built mountain-bike trails, making it one of the strongest cycling stops in this part of the Midlands.

The landscape also carries a much deeper story. Military training sites, cemeteries, memorials and historic routes reveal how the Chase was used during both world wars.

That mix makes it particularly valuable as a diversion from nearby city and heritage bases rather than somewhere that needs to become another overnight destination.
